These are Sober Days – But We Are Not Without Hope

By: Jim Daly

The scenes from Wednesday were disturbing. But why do the Scriptures repeatedly urge readers to “Fear not”?

Because fear is a natural human emotion in a broken world. But we can stand up to it. “Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.” (Proverbs 29:25)

Never forget: Jesus is either Lord of all – or not Lord at all.

What is the way forward?

When you don’t know what to say – pray.

When you don’t know what to think – pray.

When you don’t know what to do – pray.

The Lord will always listen. He will always help. He is a shelter for all who call upon Him.

The Daily Citizen team spent Wednesday, January 6, 2021 bringing you live reports from the protests in Washington, D.C.

At the end of an historic and heavy day, Michael McGonigle reported, “In just under two weeks a new president will be sworn in. And then it will be time for us as Americans to start to have some real conversations about how we are going to try to start to come together. I’ve got to tell you tonight it doesn’t really feel like that’s something that’s going to happen easily or in the near future at all. But we are Americans, and so it is our job and duty to try.”

The riots in Washington, D.C. and breach of the Capitol on Wednesday during the joint session of Congress, as members debated the certification of the Electoral College results in the presidential election, have shocked the nation.

As senators and representatives sheltered in place and police attempted to keep the mobs away and restore order, the videos that emerged, along with news of four deaths – one woman shot and killed by police and three who succumbed to “medical emergencies” – have deeply grieved the overwhelming majority Americans who believe in the sanctity of the democratic process and the peaceful transition of power.

This year will be the 48th annual March for Life, which brings Americans together from across the country to publicly declare their support for life.

Jeanne Mancini, the president of the March for Life, recently shared in an interview with The Daily Citizen about how the march has faced many challenges over the years, including this year with COVID, but will continue to shine a light on the issue of abortion.

“Of course, because of COVID, we are going to look a little bit different,” Mancini said. “We have marched every single year (since 1974), and, as you can imagine over that many years, we’ve had different obstacles. So this isn’t the first year we’ve had an obstacle, and, in fact, it seems like most years there’s some obstacle.
