While most of the nation was reeling in the aftermath of the violent insurrection this past Wednesday that left five Americans dead, eight Senators returned to the floor and continued to push the same baseless and dangerous claims that incited the riot by objecting to the results of a free and fair election.

President Trump will leave office in the next 12 days, regardless of what happens next. But these eight Senators will remain despite their betrayal, and they need to know Americans everywhere reject their actions and will vote them out the next chance they get, unless they immediately denounce these authoritarian moves. Send a message to the Shameful Eight Senators who sold out our democracy and condemn them for these treasonous actions. 

If we don’t call out their cowardly, corrupt acts swiftly and resoundingly, they’ll think they can continue to trample our democratic principles and sell out the American people without consequences. 

We must send an immediate message to the Shameful Eight — and any other would-be authoritarians — that the American people will not sit back and watch our democracy crumble; we will act, we will stand up, we will hold you accountable, and we will vote you out. 

Take two minutes right now — like right now — to tell these Senators: We will not tolerate selfish and dangerous plots to ignore the election results and throw out millions of votes.

By fanning the flames of President Trump’s vile conspiracy theories, they had a hand in this heart wrenching, deadly attack on our nation’s Capitol. But they work for us. With massive public pressure, we can show them that the majority of their constituents support democracy, not partisan ploys. 

I’m deeply saddened by what we’ve seen this week. But I am comforted by the groundswell of support for democratic norms and American ideals that have come from all corners of the country and all sides of the political spectrum.
