This week’s violence proved that Donald Trump cannot hold office one day longer.

That is why I’m leading the call to remove President Trump from office via the 25th Amendment -- and calling on Vice President Mike Pence to lead the way. 

But both Speaker Pelosi and I have reached out to Vice President Pence, and he’s refused to respond. We can only take that as a sign that he’s unwilling to fulfill his duty and his oath and invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office.

It has to end now. Congress must reconvene to impeach the president and remove him from office.

The resignations of countless White House staffers and cabinet member Betsy DeVos prove that Americans from both sides of the aisle believe it’s time for this dark chapter in our country to end -- but it’s also proof that Republicans associated with this administration would rather slink away than do their job. It’s despicable. 

The chaos at the Capitol -- an insurrection against the United States incited by the President of the United States -- is the final straw in a presidency that has done nothing but stoke the flames of hatred and violence. Donald Trump must be removed from office immediately.
