Because of the events that happened on Wednesday at the U.S. Capitol, this Weekly Update is going to be different. Instead of a cutesy intro or a listing of blogs or media, I want to express my feelings about the attack on the Capitol and our democracy. I have been a taxpayer advocate for 28 years and have been frustrated with the way government officials tax the American people and the way they spend our money. I have always advocated for taxpayers and consumers in a respectful way…albeit sometimes snarky. Patrick Hedger (VP of Policy) and I thought it was critical to release a statement on Wednesday condemning the violence. Below you will find our full statement. Thank you for supporting the Taxpayers Protection Alliance and know that we will continue to advocate for taxpayers in a way that is effective and honors the freedoms that we have in this country.

Taxpayers Protection Alliance Condemns Actions of President Trump and Allies Regarding Electoral College Certification

Washington, D.C. – Taxpayers Protection Alliance President David Williams and Vice President of Policy Patrick Hedger issued the following joint statement about the violent protests surrounding the certification of the Electoral College vote:

“While we are a nonpartisan group that does not engage in matters related directly to elections, as a taxpayer and consumer watchdog group based in Washington, D.C., we cannot stay silent about the events that unfolded today. What has occurred is beyond intolerable. President Trump and many of his staunchest allies are directly responsible for fomenting the violence and assault upon our constitutional republic today. This is a physical attack on the Capitol and an attack on our democracy. Those responsible or supportive of what occurred today have no place in our politics or policy making going forward."

“We may not always agree with elected officials and policymakers, but TPA is committed to voicing our disagreements in a civil manner. We hope other individuals and organizations join us in this commitment, as we look to heal the deep wounds our country has suffered over the last year.”

Have a great weekend, stay safe, and as always, thanks for your continued support.

Best,
David Williams
