Friends and Neighbors,

What happened on Capitol Hill was not only frightening for those of us who were there, but speaks to the danger of Donald Trump's hateful, toxic rhetoric to all of us and our democracy.

The president, with the support of his enablers, purposefully fueled outrage from his followers and stoked the flames of hostility that led to hundreds of insurrectionists storming the Capitol building and desecrating its halls. Trump's flagrant disregard for the will of the American people went beyond pride or ego. It was an attack on the democratic foundations of our country, and it inspired in these domestic terrorists the idea that their actions could change the outcome of our elections.

Make no mistake: President Trump must be removed from office — either by the 25th Amendment or impeachment.

Removing Trump is not only necessary to hold him accountable for his despicable actions, but also to limit any further damage he may do. Following the brazen attacks and attempts at tearing down our democracy, Congress got right back to work on rebuilding our country and moving us forward by certifying the results of the election. Now we must immediately move to remove Trump.
