Look, I LIVE in New York and I LOVE New York.
But New York City is a A POSTER CHILD for how the justice system operates differently for Black people and white people.
The NYPD — the police force of America’s biggest city — is notorious for its brutality and racism. And New York is the only city with a prosecutor’s office dedicated SOLELY to the draconian, overzealous prosecution of drug offenses. TODAY.
And yet — as the home of Wall Street — major financial crimes by rich white bankers routinely go unpunished.
Tahanie understands that we have to change the WHOLE system to achieve real justice.
Tahanie will halt the mass incarceration of children, and the prosecution of charges related to poverty, mental health or substance use disorder.
And she will hold police officers and the rich accountable for crimes, making sure that “no badge or bank account is above the law.”
It won’t be easy to win this change in New York.
But, as you’ve shown, we CAN bring justice to millions of people. IF we show up.
