  QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"If we lose this opportunity, I think we will have blown the single biggest public health opportunity we've ever had in 120 years to get rid of cigarettes and replace them with a much safer form of nicotine for everybody."

Emmy-Winner Michelle Williams Peddles Faulty Black Women’s Wage Gap

The Story

Emmy-winner Michelle Williams used her acceptance speech during the award show to push for black women’s equality in Hollywood. Sadly, she rested her argument on the faux black women’s pay gap. Williams is perpetrating a victimhood mentality that all black women are victims of their race and gender, but we aren’t victims and this needs to stop.

In Short

The problem with putting the blame on others is that it doesn’t empower a woman with the information she needs to make the right decisions for her situation. Let’s have a real conversation about the choices in education, career paths, and flexibility that impact pay, rather than just perpetuating the victim mentality.

Price transparency would allow you to see the real prices of healthcare services BEFORE receiving them, giving you greater control and flexibility. This would cause providers to compete for your business, leading to lower prices and greater choices for care.

No, Justice Ginsburg: We Don't Need a Constitutional Amendment to Protect Equal Rights for Women

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is determined to lend her support to an amendment that could make it impossible for U.S. law to draw any distinction between the two sexes. While the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) sounds nice in theory, removing these issues and others from American voters—both women and men—and handing them to judges to decide isn’t a victory for women’s equality. Instead, the ERA will make it more difficult for the law to protect women and girls in situations where our differences really do matter.

Nearly Half of U.S. Homeless Live in One State: California

Here is a sobering statistic: nearly half of the homeless population in the U.S. lives in California. If you observe the homeless population, you realize that dysfunction—possibly mental illness or chemical dependency, not the housing market—is the most significant driver of homelessness. Treating homelessness as a symptom of a flaw in the housing market ignores the very real problems the homeless face.
