John,
I wanted to send a short note to say thank you to everyone who has reached out to my staff and I — I’m glad that we are safe after the riots on Capitol Hill this week.
This un-American attack on democracy, in which five people died, including a U.S. Capitol Police Officer, happened because President Trump lied repeatedly to the American people, undermining our free and fair elections and encouraging — even inciting — violence.
Let me be clear: the violent attacks Trump inspired against our democracy makes it more obvious than ever that he is a danger and must be removed from office — that’s why I have now co-sponsored articles of impeachment to do just that.
We don’t have time to waste; we must act now to protect our democracy.
I am proud that Congress defended the voices of the voters and, ultimately, certified the results of the election. We must continue to stand up for democracy no matter what trials we face, that’s why this dangerous president must leave office.
With a Biden-Harris administration less than two weeks away, I feel hopeful that better days are ahead and our democracy will prevail.
Always,
Lois
