Dear John,

From a young age, it was clear that Alanna Smith was gifted. Her mom calls it a “God-given talent.” Alanna started running in middle school, where she easily won her races and was state champion in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade.

But Alanna isn’t just good at running. She loves it. She puts her heart and soul into every race, practice, and run. Her long-term goal is to run at the collegiate level. And she is well on her way.

This past June, Alanna won the 400m dash at the 74th New England Interscholastic Track and Field Championships—as a freshman!

Alanna is talented, and she trains hard. But in the end, she knows that will never be enough…
