I, like so many of you, watched hundreds of rioters emblazoned with Trump paraphernalia debauch the halls of the U.S. Capitol, instigating violence and threatening our political process. Let's be clear: that riot was a white supremacist, anti-Semitic, terrorist attack sanctioned by the President.

Watching a hateful riot take place in the halls where I've worked day-in and day-out for the past two years is infuriating. Even more so because this baseless but destructive riot was sparked and nurtured by the President of the United States and complicit Republicans in Congress.

Our elected officials need to stand up for what's right, acknowledge the results of our fair election, and leave Trump's side once and for all. Because, when it comes down to it, Country always comes before Party.

Frankly, Michelle Steel refuses to stand up for our democracy, country, and Orange Countians. She has stood with Trump through every hateful comment he's made, and she's refused to answer whether she'd accept the Electoral College vote.

Being a public servant means standing up for your constituents and country even when it means going against your party. Michelle Steel hasn't shown she's up to that task.

I'll always stand for you and our democracy. I encourage you to follow us on Facebook to see how we're endeavouring to do that each and every day >>

Country over Party,

Harley Rouda serves California's 48th district in Congress. In 2018, Harley defeated the 30-year incumbent Dana Rohrabacher in the very first political campaign of Harley's life. During his time in Congress, he's embraced common sense and values to tackle climate change, address deteriorating infrastructure, confront homelessness, and protect Social Security and Medicare. In 2022, Harley will be facing one of the toughest fights in the entire country, so he's depending on the support of grassroots individuals.
