Coronavirus: National lockdown

Oldham, along with the rest of England, has been placed in a national lockdown. There is no exception for anyone who has received a vaccination.

Stay at home
Everyone should stay at home and only leave for the following reasons:
* To go to work or provide voluntary or charitable services, if you cannot reasonably do so from home – this includes key workers and those in the construction industry.
* To shop for food and/or medicine for yourself or a vulnerable person.
* To provide care or help to a vulnerable person.
* To exercise – see below for specific rules.
* To seek medical care or an appointment or avoid injury, illness or risk of harm, including domestic abuse.
* To meet your support bubble or childcare bubble where necessary, but only if you are legally permitted to form one.
* To attend education or childcare if you are eligible.

More information on what a national lockdown means and the impact on businesses, the limitations on exercise etc. is available here: www.oldham.gov.uk/coronavirus
Staying safe
It's really important that you don't congregate with others when getting your daily exercise. Rather than visiting the obvious spots why don't you check out the full list of parks and open spaces available on your doorstep? For a full list click here ([link removed][UNIQID]) .

Recycling centres
Following the government announcement Recycling Centres will remain open. But only visit if you really need to.

To ensure safety of the public and staff, please:
* follow social distancing rules on site
* wash your hands before and after visiting
* wear a face covering
* sort your waste and recycling before you visit to minimise time on site.

In addition, BBC Two will be catering for secondary school students with at least two hours of content each weekday. For more information, click here ([link removed][UNIQID]) .

Also, the National Literacy Trust have activities for children aged 0–12 on their Words for Life page ([link removed][UNIQID]) . Or for children aged 13+, why not have a look at Zone In ([link removed][UNIQID]) ? Here you'll find the best tips to boost young adults' reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

Holocaust Memorial Day
Join us for the Greater Manchester Ceremony for Holocaust Memorial Day on Wednesday 27 January, 10–11.15am. The ceremony will be streamed live on the Mayor of Greater Manchester’s Facebook page ([link removed][UNIQID]) .

The ceremony will feature personal testimonies from survivors of genocide, films, readings and music. The online format enables even more people to join us and learn from genocide for a better future.

Please save the date and time in your diaries. Joining instructions will be sent prior to the event.

Get your free dose of vitamin D if you're high risk

During autumn and winter, everyone is advised to take vitamin D to keep their bones and muscles healthy and to support their general health. This is particularly important if you've been indoors over the spring and summer as you may not have been getting enough vitamin D from sunlight.

If you're clinically extremely vulnerable from Coronavirus you can get a free daily dose of vitamin D. For more information, click here ([link removed][UNIQID]) .
Let’s Talk Budget
We want you to have your say on our budget proposals.

We’re looking to save more than £30million as a result of the continuing financial pressures of the Coronavirus and increased demand for services.

We’ve come up with a range of proposals to cut spending and change the way the council operates. These proposals are now available to view here ([link removed][UNIQID]) .
