Vaccinations are now rolling out to priority groups
**A message from City Council Leader, Cllr David Mellen:**
Cllr David Mellen, leader of Nottingham City Council
Vaccinations are now rolling out to priority groups in the city and county. The City Council is working with the NHS locally to deliver this huge project.
City residents who are over 80 will begin to receive their letter from the NHS inviting them to book their vaccination over the next week. The letter sets out how vaccination slots can be booked online or over the phone with a choice of sites. The NHS letter offers a support line for people who do not have English as a first language. We are also working with community and faith leaders to ensure support is available for people who need help with booking their vaccinations.
To ensure that people will be able to use public transport to access the vaccination sites we have been working with city bus operators and the tram operator.
This work is happening at scale and pace and is the biggest vaccination programme seen. We will continue to keep you updated on the rollout of the programme and any further information on the specific needs and developments for city residents. Click here for more information [ [link removed] ]

*Our parks are open*
Arboretum park
A winter lockdown is not something any of us would wish for and at times, there does seem to be very little to do for entertainment aside from Netflix! However, dont forget that Nottingham has lots of beautiful parks, nature reserves and open spaces for you to enjoy. Did you know that 25% of Nottingham city is green space? Thats a whopping 1,700 hectares approximately 2,200 football pitches! We have 169 parks, over 100 play areas and 14 nature reserves. So no matter where you live, nature is on your doorstep. Remember to stay local, keep your distance from other people and wash your hands before and after your visit. In these strange and uncertain times nature has never been more important for our sense of wellbeing. For more information why not check out our Facebook page @NottinghamParks [ [link removed] ].

*Help from the BBC for homeschooling *
School children
As the latest round of Covid-19 restrictions around the UK has closed schools to the majority of students, the BBC has announced that it will support pupils with keeping up with their studies. They will be offering BBC Bite Size and other education programmes on mainstream TV, programmes will be tailored to primary and secondary education, which will be especially useful for pupils without access to the internet. It is great to see our public broadcasting service stepping up to support education in households across the country and I am sure that many parents and children in Nottingham will find this additional resource useful.

*Tackling hate crime in our city*
Nottingham Together: Let's Talk
It is our first full council meeting of 2021 on Monday, where a range of matters will be discussed. One of the key reports before us is Nottingham Citys Hate Crime Strategy, written with partners from across the city. The strategy aims to prevent hate crime by dealing with the beliefs and attitudes that can lead to it, reduce the number of incidents, increase the reporting of hate crime and improve support for victims. Its a really important piece of work and shows that as a city, we will not allow prejudice and hate in any form and that we are committed to tackling the issue locally.
