** The Fight for a Hunger Free America This January

Join us for our 20th Annual MLK Serve-a-Thon honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy of fighting to end poverty and promote social justice. This year's completely virtual event will consist of a variety of workshops on social justice issues followed by a virtual service opportunity led by one of our volunteer team members and nonprofit partners.

The new Covid-19 stimulus package ([link removed][UNIQID]) passed at the end of December included $13 billion for SNAP and other food aid -- an essential lifeline for the 50 million Americans facing food insecurity. These provisions include:
* Households will receive a 15% boost to their SNAP benefits through June 2021.
* The $300 a week in enhanced unemployment benefits included in the bill will no longer be counted as income on SNAP cases, allowing more households to keep their food benefits while they are unemployed.
* SNAP work requirements for college students have been suspended until the end of the pandemic.
* The Pandemic-EBT program, which provides families with funds to cover the cost of missed school meals, will now cover all children under 6.
