Dear John,

What we saw Wednesday was an armed insurrection on the U.S. Capitol led by a sitting president of the United States.

It was an attempted coup.

Yet today, Donald Trump is STILL commander-in-chief of the largest military in the history of the world. He still has the nuclear codes, and he's still telling his supporters that the election was stolen.

Donald Trump must be removed from office immediately. He is simply too dangerous to remain in office for even one more hour, much less another 13 days.

As the insurrection in D.C. unfolded, our team was scrambling to put together a plan to demand that Trump be removed from office immediately either through impeachment or the 25th Amendment. But we need to make it happen quickly, because there’s no telling the additional damage Trump can cause if he remains in office the next two weeks.

There are already reports that members of Trump’s cabinet are discussing invoking the 25th Amendment, and it’s clear that at least some Republicans in Congress have finally woken up to the danger Trump poses to our democracy.

But Congress won’t do anything unless they feel political pressure to do so. And most Americans don’t even know that the U.S. Constitution allows the cabinet to remove a president under these circumstances.
