Friend,
Yesterday should have been a day of celebration. However, it was darkened by an organized attack on our country.
But the American people have spoken, and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be inaugurated in under two weeks despite these seditious and treasonous acts. With the races in Georgia being called, we will also have a Congress ready to take action and do what’s right for our country.
So I wanted to take a moment to say thank you.
The idea of the “New South” was unthinkable only a few years ago, and now, thanks to the tireless hard work of Black women like Stacey Abrams, Rep. Nikema Williams (GA-05), and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, it is a reality. This victory couldn't have happened without all the community organizers on the ground, safely building important personal connections in the midst of a pandemic. Fair Fight and New Georgia Project deserve so much credit, so do the many organizations we supported including Battleground Georgia, Georgia Stand-Up, Amplify Action, and Woke Vote. This also wouldn’t happen without all the voters — especially Black and youth voters — who showed up for our new Senators. Without everyone working together, this would not be possible.
Finally, thank you, friend, for supporting Rev. Raphael Warnock, Jon Ossoff, and local organizers in these last few weeks. Whether you volunteered your time getting out the vote, donated to the candidates or organizations on the ground, or went out and voted yourself, you deserve to celebrate the victory in Georgia.
Now that we have a Democratic President, Senate, and House, it’s time to take action on the issues that matter without the constant obstructionism of soon-to-be Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. This will not be stopped by insurrectionists fueled by Trump’s rhetoric of violence and white supremacy.
We are at the start of the post-Trump era. And we will build a more equitable, more just, and climate-forward America.
Tom
