John,
Yesterday was a dark day for America.
Yesterday’s joint session of Congress to count the Electoral College votes — a normally uncontroversial event — was interrupted by a dangerous and malicious assault on our democracy inflamed by baseless conspiracy theories and false claims peddled by President Trump and many members of Congress over the last several months.
Thankfully, democracy carried the day — Congress reconvened and finished counting the Electoral College votes in the early morning hours of today. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are on their way to being inaugurated on January 20th. This is great news for our democracy. The effort by the president and by some members of Congress to overturn the election results was defeated.
Yesterday’s assault on our democratic process makes clear that our work to build an inclusive democracy that works for everyone is more important than ever. And you’ll be a critical component in helping us do just that in 2021 and beyond.
Issue One is building an aggressive agenda to strengthen our democratic institutions, ensure our democracy works for all Americans, protect our elections, improve faith in the ability of our government to get things done for the American people, and much more.
Your support is key in moving this agenda forward. Let’s get started, together.
Onward,
Nick Penniman Founder and CEO, Issue One
