Friend, the violent mob that attacked the Capitol yesterday had a leader: The President of the United States. Think about that—the president of the United States encouraged an angry mob to violently take down, destroy, and ransack the United States Capitol Building. This was nothing short of an attack on our democracy by a person who was democratically defeated. Donald Trump lost the election, and instead of participating in the process of a peaceful transfer of power—as all of his predecessors have done—he embraced an all-out attack to overturn a free and fair election. The president must be removed from office immediately, whether that’s through invoking the 25th Amendment, or Congress reconvening and impeaching him. While Trump—enabled by his Republican allies in Congress—has done significant damage to our democracy, it’s our job to fix it for the American people. And that’s what I will work to do every day. We do not get to pick the times we live in, but we do get to decide how we carry ourselves and respond to adversity. We will get through this together, and we will rebuild.
Thank you,
