John, Like you, we are continuing to grapple with yesterday's events. Many questions remain unanswered, but what we do know is that insurrectionists, ignited by the call to action from the sitting president, stormed our U.S. Capitol. Amidst the chaos, legislators, legislative staff people, Capitol employees, young interns and others were put in a terrifying and life-threatening situation. We vehemently denounce yesterday's actions, and we demand that all individuals -- regardless of title -- who incited or participated in this seditious and dangerous act be held accountable. But, at the same time, let's not overlook the rays of light that glimmered, even on this dark day in our collective story -- let's not forget the small acts of heroism or the resilience of those elected officials, who refused to let terrorists prevent them from doing their civic duty on behalf of the people of the United States of America. Inspired, we renew our commitment to working every day to secure peace, equity and safety for all. We will continue to push for commonsense gun violence prevention legislation and to condemn armed militias. From the streets of our local communities to the halls of Congress, the work for violence prevention must continue. To ascend from the depths of yesterday, let's join together as one people, bound together in our belief that a better, safer, more equitable future is a destiny we can reach. United, we shall prevail. In solidarity and with unfailing hope, The Entire WAVE Team | |
