Hi there,
Yesterday, I was doing my job to certify the election results when a violent insurrection stormed the Capitol.
They attempted to undermine American democracy by terrorizing lawmakers, law enforcement, and employees working in the Capitol. Make no mistake, these were the enemies of our democracy that I swore an oath to protect the Constitution against.
In response, we've seen an outpouring of righteous fury in just the last few hours. An outpouring of grief, an outpouring of resolve. I’m still proud to be an American because of the way I see my neighbors and colleagues comporting themselves in response. It’s a strength with dignity.
That’s something the extremists who blacked our eye in front of the world last night know nothing about.
Americans are suffering. We need relief. We need lawmakers doing their jobs, not cowering in fear behind a desk.
I know you’re with me on that. I know that in the days ahead, you’ll do what it takes to help us move closer to that reality. It’s what Americans do. And for showing dignified strength by taking action and doing what’s right in the face of surreal horror, you have my eternal gratitude and respect.
Proud to be fighting with you.
