Friend, Yesterday was a dark day in the history of America. I condemn those who have put our democracy at risk. Not only was yesterday’s assault on the Capitol a coup on our election process, but a coup on our republic. Fear will not dictate who the American people choose as their President. That is why I, along with my colleagues, certified the presidential election as soon as it was safe to do so. The world looked on as American terrorists descended upon the Capitol, and we cannot let that stand. That is why I signed on to the articles of impeachment, because President Trump is clearly unfit to serve. Similarly, I strongly encourage Vice President Mike Pence to begin the proceedings highlighted in the 25th amendment. The President is unwell and immensely unfit to serve the last 13 days of his term and he must leave office before any more harm can be done to our country and our democracy. Lastly, I stand with my colleague Cori Bush in beginning an investigation into members of the GOP who encouraged the violence that led to the devastation of our Capitol. We cannot have leaders who encourage armed mobs to stop the Constitutional proceedings of our republic. The actions taken against the American people yesterday were unacceptable, but justice will prevail. In solidarity, Yvette
