Friend,

First, I hope you and your family are safe and well. As COVID cases spread across the state and the nation, the recent murder of Dolal Idd by Minneapolis police and yesterday’s attack on our democracy at the Capitol. It’s a painful time for TakeAction Minnesota members and our neighbors. If you need support right now, you can respond to this email. It goes directly to my inbox, and I can connect you to an organizer who can provide resources or give you a call to chat.

We usually mark the end of the year through our annual People’s Celebration. Because of all the challenges over these past 10 months for so many of our members, we knew it was important to us to throw more than a celebration. We wanted to make sure to hold space for ritual, mourning and, also, joy.

In movement traditions across the world, music has been the great connector and healer in our communities. We sing in community to connect with each other – at happy times, sad times, and moments of transformation to communicate our experiences beyond words. As Harry Belafonte, artist and activist says, “When our movements are strong, our music is strong.”

Of course, we will also take space for joy. Celebrating our members and communities – through song - is the fuel that keeps our movement strong even in the darkest of times. Emcee’d by artist and movement leader Signe Harriday, our program will feature the Resistance Revival Chorus, TakeAction members & singer/songwriters Kestrel Feiner-Homer & Sarina Partridge and Minneapolis promoter, producer and DJ, Shannon Blowtorch. Knowing what our artists have in store, the People’s Sing-Along is going to be both grounding and healing. I really hope you can join us.

In 2020, our TakeAction Minnesota members made amazing strides toward our goal of building a Minnesota that works for all of us. We are excited to continue that work in 2021 by celebrating you and connecting through song. You don’t want to miss it. We have a beautiful night of powerful and healing music planned. I can’t wait.

Join us on Thursday, January 14th. Tickets start at just $5. You can get yours by clicking here: [link removed]
