"Fed Up; Rise UP!": Federal workers, lawmakers, union allies take campaign vs Trump edicts to Congress Culminating several days of in-person lobbying, but continuing a defense that’s been going since Donald Trump’s first day in office, federal worker unions, their congressional allies and other union leaders took their campaign against the GOP president’s edicts to Congress on Tuesday. The mass noontime rally of several thousand people on Capitol Hill drew attention to Trump’s anti-worker actions, from curbs on union representation for all two million federal workers down to sudden declarations that 900 of the lowest-paid disabled workers in the Portland, Ore., Veterans Administration hospital would be laid off – with two weeks’ notice. Led by the Government Employees (AFGE) and the Treasury Employees (NTEU), unions and workers lobbied for legislation to stop Trump‘s edicts in their tracks in the new fiscal year, which starts Oct. 1. Golf tourney drives "great success" for CSA There was no hole-in-one -- though one golfer did get within 7 yards of the pin -- but there were plenty of great drives, sweet putts, gorgeous weather and of course, a banquet to wrap things up. The occasion was the Community Services Agency's 24th annual golf tournament on Monday, dubbed "a great success" by CSA Executive Director Sonte DuCote. MWC treasurer Eric Bunn welcomed nearly 100 golfers to the Enterprise Golf Course -- whose workers are members of MCGEO UFCW Local 1994 -- saying that "the tournament is one of the ways that the Council and CSA work to help members facing economic hardship." The annual tournament raises money for CSA's Emergency Assistance Fund. "Without the enthusiastic support of our sponsors and locals -- and of course our Golf Committee-- CSA could not do our work to improve the lives of workers in the metro Washington area," said DuCote. "We owe a huge thanks to all who helped to make the tournament a success." photo: SEIU 722's teams; more photos are posted here. photo by Chris Garlock
Today’s Labor Quote: Lewis Hine
“There is work that profits children, and there is work that brings profit only to employers. The object of employing children is not to train them, but to get high profits from their work.”
