Friend, this week has been a bittersweet one for our country.

Good news first: Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff are still heading to the Senate. Thanks to this team and millions of others who shared our mission, Mitch McConnell’s Senate majority, and his power to block our priorities have come to an end temporarily.

Now that we have the Senate, the Biden administration will finally have the power to deliver significant COVID relief, expand health care access, guarantee voting rights, confirm qualified judges, and much more. Meaningful change and competent governing can finally occur.

We should all be proud of what we helped accomplish in Georgia—and I want to say thank you, again, to every single person who made this possible. Whether your support came in the form of time, money, or a conversation with friends or family, a piece of this victory belongs to you. Don’t let anyone take that pride and satisfaction away from you.

Your help saved our democracy. But, yesterday’s traitorous acts have shown us that the broader fight is not over. Even as we send two more honorable, principled leaders to Washington, thousands of others—including seven sitting U.S. senators and the sitting president—have attacked our democracy. Their fearmongering, lying, and outright sedition in challenging certified election results fueled the conditions that led to the failed insurrection at our nation’s Capitol and the loss of four lives, shocking the world.

What’s more, sitting members of Congress are continuing to shrink from responsibility for these horrific events. They hope that Americans will forget their role in undermining the very thing that I fought for, and my friends died for—our democracy itself.

Just as my Senate campaign was never simply about one person, our fight cannot stop with defeating and disempowering Mitch McConnell. We need to continue the fight to defeat the members and senators who stood against the United States of America this week, who have perpetuated and accelerated the traitorous rot that has grown in our presidency and our Congress, who have become so tainted and so partisan that they would throw our democracy away for their personal gain.

And friend, I’m sorry to say this will be a long fight, one that will require hunkering down and doing everything we can. This isn’t about left or right. This isn’t mere politics. This is about our national character, the democratic values we should hold sacred. There are too many who still remain in positions of power who have monumentally failed this country—these traitors must be defeated, and they must be held accountable both in the present and in the pages of history.

With your help, we can do it.

If you can, chip in today to help Democratic Majority Action continue the fight to hold our leaders accountable—and make sure the ones who let our country down lose their jobs:

I love this country. I’m proud of it. I’m not blind to its imperfections, but I’m resolute in knowing we have strong institutions that have historically been led by Americans of character. I know that when Jon Ossoff and Rev. Warnock take their vows to uphold the Constitution, a measure of honor, integrity, and altruism will return to a divided Washington.

Let’s make sure that more leaders like them join the ranks—and that people like the ones who betrayed our democracy and our Constitution this week face consequences at the ballot box.

Thank you, as always, for sticking in this fight with us, and helping to defend our democracy.
