Dear John,
Just a week into 2021, the political roller coaster continues, but we are hopeful that the end is in sight. Yesterday, we watched in horror as a dangerous right-wing insurrection took hold of the Capitol. But we also saw Democrats prevail in spectacular fashion in Georgia to clinch control of the Senate, thanks in no small part to the sustained organizing efforts of communities of color. Democracy held its ground, and the electoral votes confirming Joe Biden’s victory have been certified. On January 20, there will be a new dawn in America.
As we celebrate a federal Democratic trifecta, we are thrilled to bring you our 2020 Impact Report. Since our founding, we have engaged over 50,000 volunteers nationwide, raised $3.6 million for candidates, and reached out to 3.1 million voters. In 2020 alone, we raised an average of 9.7% of our candidates’ total fundraising and made 34.5% of candidates’ total phone calls, all of which made an outsized impact on these small races.
Here are a few of our favorite highlights from 2020:
- Our support went to close races. 88.20% of fundraising and 83.63% of phone banking went to races decided by single digit margins.
- We supported diverse candidates. Almost 80% of 2020 fundraising went to women candidates, and over 50% went to candidates of color.
- Volunteers gave their time. Across the 2020 cycle, Sister District volunteers donated more than 61,963 hours of their time supporting Sister District candidates by making calls, sending texts, and writing postcards and letters.
- Fundraising hit an all time high. Sister District raised $1,833,155.88 directly to our official Sister Races and alumni candidates, an increase of 152.94% over 2019.
We could not be more proud of what we have achieved together. But we also know that with Democrats in power in Washington, Republicans will be working overtime to thwart our progress in the states by passing laws to suppress votes and strip away rights. Sister District is ready to do our part.
Thank you to our dedicated volunteers who have made this all possible. Keep an eye out for our 2021-22 strategy next week, we can’t wait to get started.
- The Sister District Team
