On a day that began with the historic election of two new Democratic Senators in the formerly deep-red state of Georgia, our democracy also experienced one of its darkest moments.

A violent mob organized and incited by the President of the United States violently stormed the US Capitol — the ‘people’s house’ and symbol of our democratic government — seeking to stop the process of finalizing the election results and overturn a democratic election.

My colleagues and I were evacuated and hours later, once law enforcement cleared the Capitol, we returned to complete our constitutional duty and approve the state-certified Electoral College results that Joe Biden will be our next President and Kamala Harris our Vice President.

But the threat to our democracy is not gone. Donald Trump remains a grave danger to our country every minute he remains in office. He must be removed. And those around him need to know they will be held accountable for seditious acts undertaken on behalf of the president.

Join me now to demand Vice President Pence and the Cabinet invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the president from office >>

This is an extremely dark time for our country. But there is hope on the horizon.

The American people voted overwhelmingly to replace our lawless president with Joe Biden. And the people of Georgia voted yesterday to elect Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff and give Democrats the majority in the United States Senate — and with it the ability to finally take away the gavel from Mitch McConnell.

That future is just 13 days away. But it is long past time to take any further chances with the sitting president. He has shown us repeatedly who he is — and yesterday he actively incited violence against our government in order to derail certification of the election results and retain power illegally. We must establish a clear precedent that this kind of seditious conduct is unacceptable.

The Vice President and the Cabinet must immediately take the necessary steps to remove Donald Trump from office and neutralize the threat he represents. If they do not act, Congress should take action to impeach. The danger is real and can no longer be denied. Add your name if you agree >>

Thank you for fighting to defend our democracy. Together, we can protect and preserve it — and build it back better.
