The storming of our U.S. Capitol building was a blatant act of organized terrorism.

This coup was no surprise. Republican members of Congress have been enabling President Trump’s irresponsible and dangerous rhetoric for months. Their recent attempts to overturn the election undermine the very fabric of our democracy. They directly incited and stoked the flames that led to yesterday’s terrorist attack.

Yesterday’s actions by various Republican members of Congress are in direct violation of the Constitutional oath they swore. False and unfounded propaganda that leads to nationwide dissent holds no protection under the First Amendment.

These members of the Republican Party must be held accountable for turning their backs on our country and the Constitution. Brand New Congress is standing in solidarity with Congresswoman Cori Bush, who is introducing a resolution to formally expel these bad actors from Congress.

White supremacy and racism are ingrained in this country. It is pervasive in our very government. From challenging mail-in voting rights, to yesterday’s blatant coup, the GOP has intentionally attempted to suppress the voices of millions of American voters.

We reject these actions. Our rights will not be trampled. We will not be bullied.
