Just four days ago, I stood in the Capitol building and swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, as a member of the 117th Congress.

I take that duty seriously -- which is why I am calling on the House to impeach President Trump and calling on Vice President Pence to initiate Trump’s immediate removal from office via the 25th Amendment.

Safe, secure, and fair elections -- and the peaceful transfer of power between administrations -- are foundational to our nation’s democracy. In seeking to overturn the results of a legitimate election and inciting yesterday’s attempted coup, Trump has betrayed his oath of office and the American people once again.

Efforts to destroy our democracy cannot go unpunished just because they fail. This treasonous president and his allies in Congress present an immediate and grave threat to our nation, and they must be held fully accountable for their crimes to ensure this never happens again.

No one is above the law.
