The assault on our democracy yesterday started before a single far-right terrorist even breached a barricade.

It began with Paul Gosar and Ted Cruz trying to steal the votes of millions of Americans, right on the floor of Congress. With Senator Josh Hawley, raising his fist in solidarity with the violent extremists who would try to harm his colleagues only hours later. And it started all the way at the top, when Donald Trump built a political career on a racist lie and never stopped.

Donald Trump has made it clear that we can’t trust him to lead our country in the final two weeks of his term. He will continue to encourage and enable extremists committed to overturning the results of a free and fair election through violence. It’s vital that Congress hold him accountable before it’s too late.

From his refusal to disavow white supremacists in Charlottesville to his impeachment trial, it’s been obvious that Trump will put his own feelings ahead of the good of our country.
