Dear John,
Yesterday was a tumultuous day. Democrats won both Senate seats in Georgia, and an armed, angry mob stormed the Capitol and attacked our democracy.
We were already planning to gather tonight with a great group of progressive leaders, including Cynthia Nixon, WFP’s Sochie Nnaemeka, and Make the Road’s Arlenis Morel, to support Brad’s campaign and talk about the just recovery we need for our city. We’re all still reeling from yesterday, but we’re still going to gather for tonight’s event.
Because there is work to do to hold those responsible accountable and restore faith in our democracy. Because NYC’s twin health and economic crises are still raging. Because we are building community together to bring about the change we need.
We’ll talk about the political challenges of this moment and the opportunities too. And we’ll talk about the work we have to do together, to push our federal and state officials and elect new city leaders to build trust in democracy by enacting policies that support all our communities.
Thank you, and please continue to stay safe,
-- Team Lander
