John -

Today - as I have for the past four months - I support the House moving forward with the long-overdue impeachment of president Donald Trump.

Almost since the moment he finished speaking his oath of office, Trump has brazenly betrayed it. His outrageous, reckless self-dealing has compromised our national security, eroded our democratic norms, and attacked our core values.

Now, we've learned that he attempted to use $400 million in taxpayer dollars to blackmail a foreign government into meddling in our elections.

Trump has made it clear that he will not stop. Today, more than 100 of my colleagues have joined me to ensure that - despite what he seems to think - the presidency is not a license for Trump to do what he wants, when he wants, to whomever he wants.

As we move forward, though, we must be careful. Trump will, as always, try to hijack the conversation with the usual mix of lies, projections, and self-pity.

We will not let him.

He'll try to distract us from delivering results for working families.

We're staying focused.

He'll kick up as much dust as he possibly can, hoping to cover up for his assault on our democracy.

We'll see through it.

We can walk and chew gum at the same time, John. We can continue our agenda for reform in this Congress, doing our work for the American people, while laying the foundation for the highest form of executive accountability.

Courage,

Earl
