1.6.21 | Violent Assault on the U.S. Capitol

MLFA CALLS ON THE PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS
Muslim Legal Fund of America deplores the January 6, 2021 violent assault on the U.S. Capitol by a lawless mob. The event serves as a reminder that democracy needs constant vigilance, fairness and unity as the only path forward in our collective pursuit of a better future.  Over the past twenty years, MLFA has witnessed the alarming rise of White Supremacist extremism and violence, which was often directed at the Muslims, Jews, Black and Brown communities across the country.

Many MLFA stakeholders, including communities of color, came out in large numbers to vote on November 3rd , and on January 5th in the Georgia senate run-off elections, are striving to heal the country and confront the COVID-19 pandemic, advocate for fair wages, improve our schools, and re-affirm our common trust toward the environment.
The moment is right to reflect on the side of our country that we have been struggling against, in civil society and institutionally, with the hope of bringing about a more inclusive, just and welcoming America for all.  Today, with the certification of the election of the new Administration completed, MLFA calls on the President and Congress to deal with the conditions that gave rise to the organizations and individuals who use racism and violence to advance their agenda.

We hope that the January 6th event can awaken in all of us the essence of equality and civil rights under the law and a new energy focused on building the society that all of our children deserve.
