I had REALLY hoped that, if there had to be another civil war, that it would be the wealthiest 2% of the country against everyone else, and result in socialism.
It is a mistake to lump all Trump supporters, or even all of these protesters, into one group and "other" them as fascists or Nazis or alt-right, white supremacists or whatever, although I know, and I recognize that that element is definitely represented in that crowd. Democrats have really been forced to confront, even though many still try to deny it, just how corrupt their own party has become. Republicans are going through that now, I think.

I've run for office a couple of times, so I've talked to a few people, including some Republicans. Most of the Republicans that I spoke with were not overtly racist. They weren't walking around with Confederate flags or have swastikas tattooed on their necks. They were just people coming from a different perspective, a perspective of wanting their tax money spent responsibly, and of wanting law & order respected. We just have different understandings of what those things mean and how they affect protesters or immigrants.

One thing that I think every one of them had in common was that they are disgusted by the corruption in the Democrat Party. I can FEEL your Democrat nostrils flaring as you read this. You're the same about the Republican Party. Neither party is wrong about the corruption of the other. Where they go wrong is their answers to national and international problems.

What these protesters REALLY are are people trying to find a way to survive and protect their families. They've been screwed over by both parties, and for some reason they fell for Trump's lies. He gave them hope, the way Bernie gave millions of US hope. And they've been told that that is being stolen away from them. Protesting is understandable. These people are hurting. Now is when we should be reaching out and, starting with agreeing about the Democrats of Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden, and then focus on issues, not labels. No one wants to be called a fascist, including most of the people who are trying to advance fascism.

I've seen video of the police moving the barricades and letting the protesters come in. I've seen another video of police taking selfies with protesters INSIDE THE CAPITAL BUILDING. I want to be clear that forcing their way into the building would be a felony and should be fully punished, if so. But if police let the protesters in, then I don't see how you can hold them legally responsible for entry. It appears to me that police were allowing most of what occurred today, including scaling the walls outside the Capital Building. But I am not advocating, or making excuses for, a seize on the Capitol Building, or any destructive behavior.

THIS, I believe, is what we need more of. Any organizer that's worth their weight knows that you don't wait for the people to come to you, you take your message to WHERE PEOPLE ARE. In this speech, from I believe 2016, Bernie Sanders speaks at Liberty University, a private evangelical Christian school in Virginia. I remember this video being shared in 2016 as a demonstration of how to reach out to conservative voters and find things we can agree on. You don't have to watch the video, I only share it as an example of what I'm talking about (but it IS worth the hour).
What our federal government is experiencing today is what they did to Venezuela, Bolivia, Iraq, Syria, Nicaragua, Afghanistan, Libya, Honduras, Democratic Republic of Congo, and so many more countries.
