Right now, we’re witnessing a terrorist attack and violent attempted coup by white supremacists. Donald Trump’s fascism, hate, and racism created this despicable terror.

This is exactly what Trump hoped would happen. He called for a rally in D.C. and gave his marching orders while he and his enablers in Congress continued to spread baseless lies about the election and refused to count our electoral votes.

The cornerstone of our democracy is the peaceful transfer of power. Those who attempt to undermine the will of the people must be removed for violating our Constitution.

Trump has refused to accept the results of the election and he must be impeached for violating his oath of office. But Trump did not act alone.

Every member of Congress who has chosen to defend Trump’s lies and failed attempted coup over the will of the American people is unfit to serve in Congress.

If you agree that Congress must immediately move to impeach Trump and that all his enablers in Congress must resign immediately, please add your name to our national petition now.

It is clear from Trump’s video and actions that he has no plans to concede or recognize Biden’s victory. He has threatened martial law and continues to incite his extremist supporters by claiming the election was fraudulent.

As we saw clearly today, every single hour that Trump remains in office puts our country in danger. Congress must act to keep the people of this country safe and set a precedent that this behavior cannot be tolerated.

Trump is not the only person responsible for today’s events:

Sen. Ted Cruz (TX), Sen. Josh Hawley (MO), Sen. Ron Johnson (WI), Rep. Kevin McCarthy (CA-23), and many others have amplified Trump's conspiracy theories and baseless claims. They have chosen political allegiance to an authoritarian over their constitutional duty.

What happened today is an embarrassment and a disgrace. How our leaders respond in this moment will set a precedent for years to come and will send a signal across the world.

The only appropriate action is the impeachment of Donald Trump and the resignation of the Congressional members who’ve attempted to deny the results of our election.

Add your name now to our petition to demand accountability. Together we can rise up as a nation and show that this is not who we are.

Today’s events were also another stark reminder of the deep racism and inequality in our justice system.

In 2016, militarized police attacked Indigenous water protectors at Standing Rock. Earlier this year, Black and brown protesters were thrown in jail by the hundreds for marching in the streets for demanding justice for George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

And today, we saw police take selfies with right-wing insurrectionists and escort them without handcuffs outside the federal building they ransacked.

Every signature is a condemnation of today’s events and helps make the case for immediate action from Congress.
