What happened at the Capitol today was dangerous and unacceptable. Like many of you, I am deeply angered by what amounted to an attempted coup. My staff and I are all safe, but I cannot be silent in this moment.

So let me be clear here: This was an insurrection by domestic terrorists incited by President Trump. His deeply concerning behavior led to this moment.

Enough. It is time for Vice President Pence and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the President from office.

While the assault has ended, this remains a fragile moment for our democracy, and many of my Republican colleagues continue to test it. But I want to be clear that we will certify the Electoral College vote this week and affirm Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the duly elected president and vice president.

My colleagues who are trying to overturn a free and fair election are doing nothing more than grandstanding and trying to further their own political ambitions. They have no credible claims or evidence.

As I begin my second term, I pledge to you to continue speaking truth to power. In difficult moments like this, it is your faith in me that gives me the strength I need to continue fighting every day.
