The Arlington Young Democrats condemn the domestic terrorist insurrection we witnessed at the US Capitol today. This was and continues to be a coup attempt incited by outgoing President Donald Trump. Members of Congress and political leaders who have entertained these radical groups and extremist behavior for years have furthered this narrative of a fraudulent election for their own partisan gains. These actions have incited this riot in our nation’s capital. These are not patriots. These are terrorists attacking our government and our Capitol. Our House and Senate were under attack. Our legislators, their aides, and countless others employed there were under attack. Those who sheltered in place today in the Capitol are human beings with families and we stand in solidarity with them. We stand steadfast in what we know to be true: the Arlington Young Democrats oppose fascism in all its forms, know that the 2020 election was a free and fair, and that Joseph R. Biden will be the next president of the United States of America on January 20th. We hope that all of the members of Congress, the members of the Young Democrats, and everyone who lives in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area are safe today. These are dark times in our democracy and our country, but we are the leaders we need to get through it. Matt Royer
