I wanted to send a quick message to let you all know that my staff and I are safe.

Today's attempted coup by pro-Trump extremists will go down in history as one of our nation's darkest moments -- but rest assured, my colleagues and I will return to the House tonight to uphold our constitutional duty to certify the results of the 2020 election.

We must not be intimidated or dissuaded by these insurrectionists. Tonight, we will defend our democracy and certify the 2020 election results, affirming Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the next President and Vice President of the United States.

We will not back down.
