Dear
Friend
--
Earlier today, three important events unfolded:
- President Trump addressed large crowds
at the "Save America March;"
- Congress was scheduled to vote to
certify the Electoral College votes for president and
vice-president;
- Both Democrat candidates are expected to
win today's Senate runoff election in Georgia.
To get straight to the point:
it's a dark day in our country.
Why?
Because it means Democrats will have total control over the
House, the Senate, and the Presidency. That means they now have the
power to pass the Equality Act, pack the Supreme Court, pass the Green
New Deal, accelerate taxes, increase government overreach, and
continue attacks on our precious pro-life, pro-family, and
pro-religious liberty values.
So what
now?
First, we pray. The starting point for all our
business—be it in politics, in person, or in profession—is to pray. In
prayer, we orient ourselves and our hearts to God. And so we
pray: Lord, you are worthy of all praise and adoration. In the
good times and the bad. You are ever faithful, and instruct us—as your
children—to come to you especially in times of conflict. Thank you for
allowing us to live in a nation where—even as fractured as ours—power
transitions without the violence marked by so many other states and
histories. We recognize that the election did not go our way, and
while a great loss politically, we know ultimately you do not lose. We
work out of worship and joy, knowing your results are already promised
in the here to come:
"10 And so,
when Jesus’ name is called, the knees of everyone should
fall, wherever they’re residing. 11 Then every tongue in one accord, will say that Jesus the Messiah is
Lord, while God the Father praising." (Phil.
2:10-11)
Second, we work. Even
after all the hard work we put in last year for the 2020 election, we
didn't stop working after November 3rd. Even over this past weekend,
while many were resting and celebrating the New Year, we were jointly
sending buses of supporters and doing everything we could on the
ground in Georgia. And in spite of the results, we will continue
working. There is a reason why first you pray, and then you work.
Prayer not only orients your mind, but lifts your hands. It frees them
from the shackles of result and allows them to worship through
work:
"23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord,
not for human masters," (Col. 3:23).
Third, we don't
worry. This point is the byproduct of the other two, and in
such current times of trial and tribulation of special comfort. It's
easy to find oneself discouraged by election results. Afterall, they
have very real ramifications (we teased at some earlier, and we will
live them). However, we start with prayer because it reminds us: in
the end, Jesus wins ("every tongue in one accord,
will say that Jesus the Messiah is Lord"). Does this mean in the
here-and-now we should throw up our hands because God ultimately wins?
On the contrary! God invites us to take His hand and be a part of His
victory. Furthermore, He invites us to worship through
work ("as working for the Lord"). When you grasp
these encouraging truths, you understand why Scripture states:
"6 do
not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to
God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all
understanding, will guard
your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Phil.
4:7-7)
When your heart and mind is guarded
in Christ—guarded in the knowledge Jesus wins—anxiety loses much of
its sting. The coming ramifications of this election are no less real.
However, instead of inviting dismay and worry, we should merely be
sobered to them, and respond by continuing a joy whose splendor is far
greater than whether our candidate or policy wins our loses. This joy
is to worship the Triune God in whatever we do by working for Him.
What an honor!
So what do we do now?
Pray, work (harder, even), and do so freed from
worry. This is why the NC Values Coalition was in Georgia
this week. It's why we take on issues that others may determine are
too difficult, unpopular, or doomed to be 'vetoed by the Governor.'
It's why we ultimately exist: because we truly believe we are working
unto the LORD in defending His values of life, family, and liberty.
We're freed to work on them, but also empowered by the nature of this
work, to work extra hard on them. We work unto the Lord, who
rightfully expects our best.
Now—perhaps more than ever—states
like North Carolina will need coalitions like NC Values to face the
upcoming war against our values. Facing such giants, we need those who
know how to work unto the LORD.
If you agree, we would be
grateful for your continued prayers. And
while you've already given so much, if you are still able, would you
consider making a $25, $50, $100, or more donation today to support
our important work this year?
Blessings,
Tami Fitzgerald NC Values
