John — The Watergate scandal was such a flagrant and disturbing abuse of Presidential power that it ended the Presidency of Richard Nixon and is one of the most notorious political scandals of the past century. Nixon never tried to rig an election — but Trump did. Trump ordered the chief election officer of the state of Georgia to falsify or forge enough votes to secure his victory in the state. In doing so, Trump used the authority and powers of the Office of the President to order an election official to illegally rig an election in order to stay in power. Imagine if he had succeeded and these votes were successfully forged. Imagine if these orders and calls occurred in multiple states and were carried out. Donald Trump would have, effectively, orchestrated a coup against the legitimate victor of the 2020 general election, subverting the will of the American people, our laws, and our democracy. At this point the United States would no longer be a democracy. Trump would be illegally serving as a self-appointed tyrant as a result of illegal ballot-stuffing and tampering. Many Republicans believe the President’s call and orders were just — In fact, right now more than 150 Republicans in Congress are joining Trump’s call to overturn the 2020 election results. What Trump did is far worse than Watergate: Do you believe he should be investigated formally for his criminal behavior?
