It's been over 20 years since I enlisted in the Army and took my first oath, making a lifelong promise to defend our country and Constitution. I renewed that oath again multiple times, including this week, as I was sworn in to the 117th Congress.

But today, some of my colleagues are going to turn their backs on their own oaths and choose to support Trump's wild conspiracy theories about this election.

This dereliction of duty is shameful -- not only to the American people but also to democracy itself.

Trump has always shown us who he is. We knew who he was almost a year ago when we impeached him in the House, and I helped prosecute him in the Senate Impeachment Trial. He has bribed foreign adversaries to interfere in our elections and asked the Georgia Secretary of State to find him 11,780 votes. But, none of this happens without the people around him. They've turned a blind eye to the will of the American people for their own political gain. The pattern we've seen throughout Trump's presidency is one of the dangerous enablers.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the electoral college and the popular vote in the most secure election to date. The results withstood the 60 failed and frivolous lawsuits filed by Trump and his allies -- Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will become our new president and vice president on January 20, 2021.

Trump has been enabled by his inner circle for years, and right now, we need people like you, Friends, to fight back against their corruption and their efforts to tear down our democratic institutions from the inside.
