https://mailchi.mp/rightsaction/breaking-news-mynor-padilla-found-guilty

Mynor Padilla, Hudbay Mineral’s former head of security, found guilty on charges of mining-linked repression, including murder, in Guatemala on September 27, 2009.

In a hearing today (January 6, 2021), a Guatemalan court found Mynor Padilla (former head of security for Hudbay Minerals and Skye Resources; former Lieutenant Colonel in the Guatemalan Army) guilty on charges related to mining-violence committed September 27, 2009, against Mayan Q’eqchi’ community defenders near Hudbay’s then mining operation in Guatemala.

Padilla had already spent 4.5 years in jail during the initial trial, before pleading guilty to all charges when his re-trial began on December 17, 2020. The court accepted Padilla’s guilty pleas for the murder of Adolfo Ich; the shooting-paralyzing of German Chub; and assaults committed against two other local campesinos (farmers) – Haroldo Cucul and Alejandro Acte.
