John,
What a way to start the new year! Last night, Rev. Raphael Warnock won his Senate race in Georgia. We are also confident that once all the votes have been counted, Jon Ossoff will join the reverend as senator-elect. Together, they will deliver a Democratic Senate to President-elect Joe Biden.
(Can you say, “Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell”? Because we sure can!)
Two weeks from today, we’ll have a Democratic trifecta in Washington, and we couldn’t have done it without you. Whether you donated, volunteered, voted, or encouraged others to vote, you were part of the incredible community of grassroots supporters who made this possible. Thank you!
With your help, Voto Latino was able to register tens of thousands of people to vote in Georgia this year, including right before these runoff elections. With your support, we also identified about 100,000 Latinx people who were at risk of not voting and reminded them to cast their ballot.
But these kinds of victories don’t happen overnight. They’re the result of years (sometimes even decades) of organizing and engaging communities. This work continues even in years that don’t have elections.
Today, our work and the work of so many others paid off, and now we’re sending a Black reverend who speaks from MLK’s pulpit and a Jewish millennial to the U.S. Senate from the great state of Georgia.
A New South is rising, and what happened last night is just the beginning. What happened in Georgia can happen in states like Texas -- if we can reach our community where we’re underrepresented in the electorate, register people to vote, and help them get to the polls. Pitch in now.
