Today, Congress meets to formally certify Joe Biden’s resounding victory in the Electoral College.
The President’s lawsuits have fallen flat – there was no fraud, no irregularities, and no basis for anything other than the immediate certification of this victory.
But that hasn’t stopped a clique of ambitious Republican Senators from peddling dangerous lies about the nature of the election over the past few days – and now they’re planning to object to the certification, with Mike Pence on their side.
As I explained in my recent opinion piece in USA Today, should Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, and their co-signers succeed, they would usurp the franchise of every American who cast a ballot in this election.
Thankfully this baseless conspiracy is constrained to a few extremist Senators, and is certain to fail.
Yet we cannot let this stunt detract from the fact that these Senators wish to overturn the largest, most secure election in our history and violate one of the most sacrosanct parts of our Constitution and send our republic down a dark path.
