Dear Justice for Immigrants Friends and Supporters:
As we move into the new year, there will be no National Migration Week in January as we have moved celebrations to September but there is plenty going on! We want to highlight a few upcoming events and resources that will be helpful to you during the next several weeks.
1. No National Migration Week in January. Please note that there will be no National Migration Week (NMW) in January 2021. Starting this year, the Catholic bishops of the United States have decided to move National Migration Week to September, so that it aligns with the Vatican's World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR). WDMR takes place the last Sunday of September and NMW the week leading up to it. In 2021, NMW will take place September 20th - 26th. Please check the JFI National Migration Week page as we head into the spring for further information.
2. JFI Transition Documents. We are excited to provide you access to the JFI transition documents, which include the collective recommendations of the JFI coalition for the incoming Biden Administration and the 117th Congress. The recommendations are divided into four general categories: legalization; border policies; enforcement; and root causes. The documents are intended to guide discussions with legislators and the Administration.
3. National JFI Call. Please mark your calendar for January 13th at 2:00 PM EST, the next national call. Join to learn more about what is happening in the world of migration policy and how we are preparing for a new Administration and a new Congress. 3. January is Anti-Trafficking Month. Please remember that January has been declared human trafficking prevention month. It is an opportunity for all of us to reflect on what steps we can take in our own lives and in our community at large to fight the evil of human trafficking. Please use our recently updated anti-human trafficking toolkit to assist in these reflections.
4. February 8th - Feast Day of St. Bakhita. The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and the International Union of Superiors General has designated February 8th as an annual day of prayer and awareness against human trafficking, which is also the Feast Day for St. Josephine Bakhita. Please join us for this important day of reflection and prayer as we continue the fight against human trafficking.
