Today is a day that will be talked about for generations; that will be written about in history books.
Why? Because my Democratic colleagues in the House are moving forward with a formal impeachment inquiry of the President.
It's about time. I strongly support this impeachment inquiry because when there is substantial evidence that the president has broken the law and corrupted our foreign policy for personal gain, he must be held accountable.
To say that Donald Trump's presidency has been a disaster and a disgrace puts it too lightly. By all accounts, he and his political operatives may very well have committed several crimes against our country.
The House will do its constitutional duty, to investigate and shine a light on all the potential high crimes and misdemeanors that Donald Trump and members of his administration may have committed.
... and, if after this process the House decides to impeach Donald Trump, the Senate must do its constitutional duty and take up the case. No obstruction. No punting. No sneaky tricks to avoid responsibility.
I'm going to be watching this process closely. I know you will, too.
The future of our country is at stake.
Jeff
