[1]Alessandra Biaggi - Democrat for State Senate
Friends -
A few weeks ago, our campaign sent an email talking about the importance
of my "Healthy Terminals Act," a bill I wrote to raise wages and provide
health care to more than 25,000 struggling airport and terminal workers in
our state.
I am happy to tell you that on New Years Eve, The Healthy Terminals Act
was signed into LAW.
As we deal with a global pandemic, these airport and terminal workers are
some of the most vulnerable in our state, and I dedicate the bill’s
passage to Leland Jordan, a JFK baggage handler who was sadly one of the
first airport workers to die after contracting the coronavirus earlier
this year.
But the truth is, even before the pandemic, these workers -- mostly Black,
brown, and immigrant airport workers -- have served our state without
access to health care they need to keep themselves and their families
safe.
This bill will help them tremendously, and that makes me very happy and
proud.
What’s more, in mid-December, we got another one of my bills signed into
law, one that limits the display and sale of hate symbols, like the
Confederate flag, on state property.
I thought that was something you’d want to know, as well. Because with the
passage of my legislation, New York State will finally lead by example and
discourage the perpetuation of symbols that do not represent our values.
Tomorrow, I’ll be officially sworn into another term in the New York State
Senate. Representing the Bronx and Westchester has been the honor of my
life so far, and I want all of you to know that no matter who you are or
what your political affiliation is, I represent you and you can always
count on me for that.
We have a lot of work to do and little time to waste. I’ll need you by my
side in a lot of important fights that are coming up very quickly. Issues
like COVID relief, a vaccine distribution plan, and raising the revenue we
need from the wealthiest among us to help the working families of our
state.
More soon.
All my best,
Alessandra Biaggi
