NEW MEXICO HOUSE WILL HAVE VIRTUAL PARTICIPATION FOR PUBLIC DURING  THE  2021  LEGISLATIVE SESSION

The New Mexico House of Representatives has announced it plans to have virtual public participation when the legislature opens its 60-day session at noon on January 19. The decision comes due to the pandemic. Democratic lawmakers say the virtual public participation includes all committee hearings and public comment.  No member of the public will be allowed inside the Roundhouse. This is hardly transparency of government. We shouldn’t lock our state capitol doors to the citizens. In addition, an internet session is not reliable and would not provide an equal opportunity for people around the state to participate. Many New Mexicans have poor or no internet connection, and a virtual session will prevent them from taking part in the governmental process.

Here's the story from KOAT-TV:

BUSINESSES FILE LAWSUIT AGAINST NEW MEXICO’S COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS

A group of businesses is saying enough is enough. The businesses have gone to federal court in an effort to end Gov. Lujan Grisham’s illogical and unjust Public Heath Order. The group says the state has imposed arbitrary and unnecessary rules that have destroyed the business communities and the economy in New Mexico. It claims the virus threat is overblown. The lawsuit wants the court to override the Order and have the state compensate businesses for lost income. Since the pandemic began, New Mexico has seen a collapsed economy and the shuttering of hundreds of businesses. It’s time for the state to be fair and sensible when it comes to its restrictions.

Here's the story from the Associated Press:

TWO NEW MEXICO MEGACHURCHES FINED OVER VIOLATIONS OF GOVERNOR’S  PUBLIC HEALTH ORDER

Two megachurches in Albuquerque are facing fines up to $10,000 each after the state claimed they violated Gov. Lujan Grisham’s Public Health Order. State health officials say Cavalry Church and Legacy Church held Christmas services attended by hundreds of congregants. Pictures of the services had been put on social media. This is another case of the state exceeding its authority and not allowing New Mexicans to worship and exercise their right to assemble.

Here's the story from ABC News:
