POLITICO: “Gabriel Sterling, a top official in the Georgia secretary of state’s office, condemned President Donald Trump and the state’s two Republican senators, David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, in a fiery press conference ... after a local election worker received death threats.”
Both facing runoff elections today, these GOP senators are so terrified of losing their seats -- and being responsible for their party’s loss of the Senate -- that they turned a blind eye to their base sending a twenty-something voting machine technician a noose.
And Loeffler and Perdue SHOULD be scared. Millions of Georgians already cast their ballots against these two on November 3, thanks to years of grassroots organizing from Stacey Abrams and others in Georgia. And both Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock are formidable progressive candidates who will turn those same voters out and then some. And once they win, Mitch McConnell will no longer have majority control of the Senate, ending his ability to unilaterally kill progressive bills.
But this desperation must also serve as a warning. The GOP in Georgia is notorious for their dirty voter suppression tricks -- frequently ranking worst in the nation -- and now that those measures have failed, they’re resorting to voter intimidation to hand them victory.
We cannot allow this. Permitting Sen. Loeffler and Sen. Perdue to rally their base through baseless claims to the point of permitting threats of violence wouldn’t just be disastrous for our democracy -- it would all but ensure that Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and the Democratic House will be blocked from passing any kind of meaningful legislation.
Our democracy is at stake -- PLEASE donate now to condemn Loeffler’s, Perdue’s, and the GOP’s insistence on stealing another election.
