John,
President Trump’s phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Raffensperger, where he pressured him to “find 11,780 votes” to flip the state to Trump, wasn’t just outrageous. It was impeachable—and likely criminal.
In an administration defined by shameful acts, this is a true low point. President Trump took exactly the lesson we feared from his acquittal in the Senate last year and has escalated his abuses of power in order to try to keep himself in office. He has now been caught on tape trying to rig an election. Congress should act to impeach him immediately—even with only days remaining in his presidency, Congress must hold Trump accountable and stand up for our democracy’s most basic principles.
But Congressional action isn’t the only way Trump can face accountability. He also appears to have violated the law, by illegally conspiring to deprive the people of Georgia of their right to vote and have their votes counted, conspiring to intimidate Georgia election officials in an effort to falsify the count of votes in the presidential election and more. We’ve filed a criminal complaint because no one is above the law. The DOJ and Fulton County District Attorney must investigate Trump’s actions, and prosecute him if necessary.

The extent to which Trump has abused the powers of the presidency and attempted to use the resources of the federal government and of his office to maintain power is truly breathtaking. After four years of corruption, criminality, abuse of power and attacks on our democracy, it’s hard to accurately sum up just how outrageous Trump’s conduct is. Trump has proven there is no bottom—there is no low to which he will not stoop, no law or principle he will not violate, in order to maintain his grip on power.
And here at CREW, there’s nothing that will stop us from fighting back and defending our democracy.
