Statement on the Passing of Sheriff Sandra Hutchens

ORANGE COUNTY, CA - Hon. Fred M. Whitaker, Chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County, released the following statement:

"Today Orange County lost a leader and trailblazer in public service and law enforcement. I am saddened at the passing of former Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens.

Sheriff Hutchens spent her life protecting and serving the people of Southern California. She started her career in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and worked her way up the ranks leading to her appointment to become Orange County’s first female Sheriff in 2008. Sheriff Hutchens brought trust, transparency and integrity to her position at a very difficult time in the history of the department. She then was elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 with overwhelming margins, serving over 10 years as Orange County Sheriff.

Sheriff Hutchens was a leader in the Republican Party and a champion for crime victims. Upon her retirement the Republican Party of Orange County was proud to present Sheriff Hutchens with the Chairman's Golden State Leadership Award for her work to keep Orange County families safe, often working against Sacramento's failed public safety policies.

She served with the tenacity and dedication that has inspired so many of Orange County's elected officials and members of law enforcement.

Our prayers are with Sheriff Hutchens' husband Larry and her law enforcement family who loved her deeply."
