As we begin 2021 with excitement and hope for our new President and Vice President, I wanted to make sure you are aware of an important local election happening this month that will determine the future of the California Democratic Party: the Assembly Delegate election. 

This little-known but incredibly important election takes place every two years when each Assembly District in California elects community leaders as delegates to our state Democratic Party. These delegates play a critical role in setting the agenda, electing leadership, and voting on endorsements for our party. This election is known as the Assembly District Election Meetings (ADEMs).

I’m proud to endorse the Rise Together slate in my district, Assembly District 17. This is a diverse group of 14 progressive candidates who will fight for our values within the Democratic Party.

The Rise Together slate is a group of community-based advocates fighting for immigrants, more housing, improved transit, and support for our small businesses. They are working people including a janitor, a home caregiver, a sprinkler fitter, and public sector employees, committed to a Democratic Party platform and agenda that supports and lifts us all. I hope you will consider supporting these committed community activists by voting for all 14 candidates on the Rise Together slate.

Here are the important steps and dates for this election:

• REQUEST YOUR BALLOT BY JANUARY 11th. The deadline to request your ballot for this critical election is January 11th. If you are a registered Democrat who lives in Assembly District 17, request your ballot today. If you live in a different Assembly District you can participate in that district’s ADEM election.
  
  
• SAVE YOUR UNIQUE CODE. When you request your ballot, you will receive a unique code. Please write this code down.
  
  
• WATCH FOR YOUR MAIL IN BALLOT, MARK IT AND RETURN ASAP. The Party will mail out your ballot. Mark your ballot, including the unique code, and mail back your completed ballot as soon as possible. All ballots must be received by the Party before January 27th.
